SAR TECH

The SARTECH III level of certification is the beginning level for SAR personnel. This level is recommended for any person who responds to and functions on SAR missions. Persons who obtain this certification are to function within the limits of the certification described in the NASAR standards for SARTECH III.

This test is now available on-line at www.nasar.org/nasar/online_exams.php. This is a timed exam of 90 minutes with 75 questions. If you wish to take the official SARTECH III online exam and receive official SARTECH III certification, NASAR patch and SARTECH III rocker you may do so for a fee of $40. This fee will increase to $50 on June 1, 2006. If you wish to take the unofficial version of the SARTECH III online exam and do not desire certification, a NASAR patch or SARTECH III rocker you may do so for a fee of $15. A passing grade is 70% or above is required for certification.

The written exam includes questions from the following topics: Land Navigation & Orienteering, SAR Resources, Search Philosophy, Search Tactics, Clue Consciousness, Search Operations, Lost Person Behavior, Helicopter Operations, Communications and NIMS Incident Command System.
